ST. JOHN HEALTH SYSTEM AND NEIGHBORHOOD LINK COME TOGETHER TO HELP BRING FREE NEIGHBORHOOD WEB SITES TO DETROIT
DENVER & DETROIT, August 14, 2000 - Neighborhood Link (www.neighborhoodlink.com), the Internet-based community network that enables metropolitan-area neighborhood associations to create their own free, interactive Web sites today announced that St. John Health System (www.stjohn.org), has signed on as the first sponsor in Detroit. Through this sponsorship, St. John is helping to bring Neighborhood Link’s community service to Detroit.
Neighborhood Link enables neighborhood associations, homeowners associations, local clubs and organizations to establish and maintain their own Web sites quickly and easily by entering information into simple forms, which automatically and instantaneously create or modify Web pages. No knowledge of HTML or programming language is necessary.
“St. John Health System’s deep understanding of the importance of community makes this sponsor a perfect match for us,” said Ted Pinkowitz, CEO of Neighborhood Link. “We know that the Detroit community will benefit greatly from our services and we are excited to be able to team up with St. John to provide them.”
By connecting neighborhoods with city government, such as Mayor Dennis Archer’s office, Neighborhood Link is becoming Detroit’s primary Internet resource for civic communication and information. Neighborhood Link’s goal is to re-create civic communication in the United States through public and private partnerships with cities and corporations.
“We believe that the Internet is fast becoming a tool for social change and community development. By partnering with Neighborhood Link and the City of Detroit we’ll strengthen our neighborhoods by making it easier to access health and civic information over the Internet,” said Vernice Davis Anthony, St. John Health System’s senior vice-president, community health.
St. John Health System is a network of community-based healthcare services in metropolitan Detroit. St. John provides comprehensive prevention, primary care and treatment programs with approximately 3,200 physicians and more than 175 ambulatory and medical offices, and 10 hospitals spanning six counties.
